There are many ways to direct a domain to another domain or subdomain and one of them is by setting up a CNAME record. In case you own a domain and you've created a site using some on-line service that provides you with a service subdomain, you could easily link the two by creating a CNAME record for your-domain.com that directs to subdomain.provider.com. What you are going to achieve as a result is that www.your-domain.com is going to be in the Internet browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned website from the servers of the third-party company. It is important to know that if you set up a CNAME record, any other records your domain may have will stop working, so you can't have both a CNAME record directing to one provider and working e-mail address with a different one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and in some cases further configuration may be required with the other provider.
CNAME Records in Web Hosting
Creating a CNAME record with our Linux web hosting service is quite easy. When you want to create a private URL for your emails, to redirect a domain address to a subdomain inside the account or to forward a domain address to another provider and use some third-party service which they provide, it's not going to require more than three clicks to create this sort of record. All DNS records for the domain names and subdomains hosted inside the semi-dedicated account will be listed in a separate section in the CP, so when you are there, all that you will have to do will be to select the type of the record that you want to set up and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then input the actual record text.
